Visiting Costa Rica three years ago, on the advice of his brother, Sabre, who had visited the Nicoya Peninsula six years previously, Youbi fell in love with the region, bought land and has built a house. Hailing Belgium, as a first generation son of Moroccan Parents, Youbi, qualified as an Technical Drawing teacher discarded the 9 to 5 life, becoming the Belgian Snowboard Champion in 1995 in his first competitive year snowboarding.

This remarkable, against the ebb and flow result, saw Youbi break out of not only traditional constraints imposed by the for profit society, but also became a national icon breaking the prejudices of a conservative anti-immigrant Belgian society. In the process, Youbi signed a international contract with snowboarding giant, Burton, that saw a seven year whirlwind global voyage of discovery and friendship.

Since his first visit, Youbi has acquired land and built a house in the Santa Teresa area fulfilling a surfers dream house in paradise he has had since understanding sideways momentum. Hosting the official opening welcome BBQ and being one of the original co-conspirators on the Breathe Costa Rica concept, Youbi will be on hand for surf lessons, region touring and general assistance. The ultimate regional host.
