Rainsong Wildlife Sanctuary Continues Work

In the jungles of non-governmental organizations, one voice is crying out for help!

Right now, deep in the jungles of Costa Rica amidst rain and vibrant hues of green, there exists a Wildlife Rescue Center and Sanctuary. Theirs is an organization that focuses on conservation, education in local public schools, and the re-introduction of endangered or nearly extinct species of animals and birds. Surrounded by forest, this rescue center is run by a small number of people, less than 5, who are devoted to not only combating poaching and the illicit pet trade, but also promoting reforestation by providing a nursery of rare, endangered hardwoods and native fruit trees.

This small slice of paradise is the rare beauty of Rainsong Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Cabuya , Costa Rica. Theirs is a vision that is as broad in scope as it is unique in the area. An organization that is as on the brink of extinction as the species it is trying to protect. Before its inception in 2004, wildlife losses in the area were staggering. Illegal poaching, electrocutions on the government’s electric lines, unrestrained domestic dogs killing off wildlife, and the clear cutting of forest for developmental projects all contributed to the death and endangerment of the local flora and fauna

From the beginning they have confronted head-on the Government bureaucracy in order to acquire permits, and to disseminate vital information. Drawing on a network of volunteer wildlife scientists, biologists, and zoologists from around the world, these brave pioneers work hard to protect the many mammal and bird species that have been ignored by past conservation efforts.

At this time, Rainsong’s most urgent priority is to construct AN OPEN-AIR  jungle habitat for the animals that cannot be released due to permanent disability. Over the past four years, they have been developing a  2000 square meter site that will be home to many different animals, such as the Kinkajou, Capuchin and Mantled Howler Monkeys, Anteaters, Tepezquintles, Squirrels, Deer, AND OTHER non-carnivorous animals. Rainsong will continue providing for their dietary and medical needs while also providing the paradise they require to live in peace and in a word, be FREE. In order to complete the site, they need to build an enclosure that is 2 meters high in order to protect these animals from predators such as Coyotes, Wild Cats, Pizotes and Boa Constrictors.

This enclosure can be built with just $10,000.00 dollars. But that’s $10,000.00 dollars that’s not easy to come by so far away, deep in the rainforest. The Time to get involved is NOWRainsong is a non-profit organization which means that they rely solely on volunteers and donations in order to keep their program running. The lack of wildlife rescue centers in Costa Rica is shocking and everyday the rainforest is shrinking. The cost of food, vitamins and medicine for the animals is high, leaving NO FUNDS FOR NECESSARY CONSTRUCTION AND EXPANSION OF THE FACILITIES.

Without Rainsong, there would be no rescue center or sanctuary for wildlife in the Southern Nicoya Penninsula. Without your immediate help, there might soon be no Rainsong. The question is, what we can do, RIGHT NOW, as a global community, to work together to answer the call of our brothers and sisters, the plants and animals, that can not survive with out our immediate intervention? Let us be the voice for those who have none. Let us protect those who need us most urgently. Eden is calling from Cabuya , Costa Rica.

There is still time to save paradise……
